She was under house arrest between 1989 and 1995. She became secretary of the CRPP after Aye Thar Aung was arrested. She was under house arrest from Sept 22, 2000 to May 6, 2002 for the second time. After Aye Tha Aung's release, she stepped down and returned the position to him.

He was defence minister from 1974 to 1976. He was dismissed and imprisoned when authorities accused him of being involved in an attempted coup. He was put under house arrest on July 29, 1989, and on Dec 22, 1989 he was imprisoned for three years.
