“UNAIDS has no means to track the number of sex workers in Myanmar [Burma],” said one representative of the organization in Burma, “nor whether the number is currently increasing or decreasing.” Economic factors, however, can affect the growth of a country’s sex industry, as “worsening poverty tends to increase women’s vulnerability and encourages more sex work,” the representative added.
