Khin Maung Win (Released)

Pen Name: Sunny

Detained: (1997)

Photographer and cameraman Khin Maung Win, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for his part in making a video of an interview with Aung San Suu Kyi and smuggling it out of the country.

 

10. Ko Ko Maung (Jailed)

Pen name: Nyi Min Thet

Detained: (2002 -)

Ko Ko Maung is currently being held in Myingyan Prison.

 

11. Kyaw San (Released)

Pen Name: Cho Seint

Detained: (1996 - 2004)

Kyaw San was sentenced to seven years in prison for supporting the 1996 student demonstrations in his articles and poems, published in opposition magazines. He was released from Tharrawaddy Prison in March 2004.

12. Kyi Tin Oo (Released)

Detained: (1994 - 2004)

Journalist and poet Kyi Tin Oo was arrested on March 1, 1994 and sentenced to ten years in prison under the State Protection Law. He was accused of publishing political articles in the monthly magazines Moe Wai and Tha-bin.

 

13. Dr. Maung Maung Kyaw (Jailed)

Dr. Maung Maung Kyaw is currently being held in Moulmein Prison.

 

14. Maung Tin Thit (Jailed)

This poet from Mandalay is currently imprisoned – details unknown.

15. Min Zin (Released)

Pen Name: Aung Zin Min

Detained: (1996 - 2004)

Aung Zin Min was arrested in December 1996, and sentenced to seven years imprisonment for supporting the 1996 student demonstrations in his articles and poems, published in the magazine New Style.

 

16. Moe Thu (Released)

Pen Name: Maung Moe Thu

Detained: (1996 - 2000)

Charged under the State Protection Law, journalist and writer, Moe Thu, was released in 2000.

17. Myint Thein (Jailed)

Pen Name: Myint Myat Thein

Detained: (1996 -)

Myint Thein, currently held in Thayet Prison, was arrested on December 4, 1996 during the student demonstrations in Rangoon and sentenced to seven years in jail for supporting the student movement.

 

18. Myat Hlaine (Released)

Detained: (1991 - 1999)

Poet, NLD Member of Parliament and writer for the magazine Payfulwa, Myat Hlaine was arrested in December 1991.

19. Mya Kyaing (Released)

Pen Name: Maung Thwe Khaing

Detained: (1996 – 2000)

Freelance journalist Maung Thwe Khaing was arrested in 1996 for campaigning for democracy.
