The funeral for celebrated Burmese Actor Dwe, 42, was held in the early hours of Friday morning to avoid the massive crowds that were expected to gather for the event.

Close friends said that Dwe, one of the most famous celebrities in Burma, died of a heart attack on Wednesday evening. He was cremated at a ceremony held at Yayway Cemetery in Rangoon’s Mingaladone Township at 5 a.m. Friday morning, with family and a few friends from the film industry in attendance.

"Thousands of his fans were waiting for his funeral,” said film director Aung Min Thein. “Some had been waiting at cemetery the whole night.”

Many more fans have been eager to read the latest reports of Dwe’s death. Rangoon newspapers The Myanmar Times and Snapshot Journal have sold out, leading some shop owners to sell photocopies of the newspapers.

“He loved performing in movies and always did his best on every film. I know that people will die one day, but he left too early," his wife Moe Moe told the Rangoon-based journal Popular.

Dwe, a 1997 Burmese Academy Award winner for best male actor, is survived by his wife and adopted son Yan Moe.
