Journalist and NLD member Myo Myint Nyein was released on February 13, 2002, after spending 12 years in prison. Before completing his first sentence he was sentenced to seven additional years for participating in underground magazines in Insein Prison.

Former journalist for the papers and magazines Kyemon, Botahtaung and Youqshin Aunglan and Member of Parliament-elect for the NLD, Ohn Kyaing is currently serving a seventeen-year sentence in Toungoo Prison for writing an article in favor of democracy.
22. San San Nweh (Released)
Pen Name: San San Nweh
Detained: (1994 - 2001)
Journalist and writer San San Nweh, a member of the NLD, was released from Insein Prison on July 18, 2001 after being sentenced to ten years in prison for “producing and sending anti-government reports to international radio stations and foreign journalists passing through the country.”
23. Sein Hla Oo (Jailed)
Pen Name: Maung Ngwe Oo
Detained: (1994 -)
Former editor of the Botahtaung and NLD Member of Parliament-elect Sein Hla Oo is presently being held in Myitkyina Prison. He was convicted of distributing articles to foreign embassies and the media that were considered to be “anti-governmental.” He has still not been released, despite completing his sentence in 2001.
24. Sein Hlaing (Released)
Detained: (1990 - 2002)
Sein Hlaing was sentenced for having publishing an article critical of the Burma Army, in a magazine that he co-published with Myo Myint Nyein. In 1996, he received an additional seven-year sentence for having contributed to a report sent to the United Nations special rapporteur for Burma and for his involvement in an underground prison publication.
25. Sein Ohn (Jailed)
Detained: (1996 -)
Sein Ohn, presently being held in Insein prison, was sentenced to ten years in prison for distributing videotapes that were not approved by a censor and for possessing video-copying equipment without official permission. Formerly a cameraman and photographer with the NLD, he was involved in making films of Aung San Suu Kyi and reports critical to junta’s policies.
26. Soe Thein (Released)
Pen Name: Maung Wuntha
Detained: (1996 - 2001)
Journalist and Member of Parliament Maung Wuntha, founder of the magazine Ah-Twe-Ah-Myin (Thought), was sentenced to five years in prison under the State Protection Law for writing and publishing articles defending the opposition movement.
27. Tha Ban (Jailed)
Detained: (1997 -)
Former editor of a newspaper, Tha Ban was arrested in March 1997 and sentenced to seven years in prison for his articles in favor of democracy and for helping a student who was collecting information on the history of a student association.
